Mammals
The Western Ghats region of India is known for its remarkable biodiversity, including a diverse range of mammal species. While it is difficult to provide an exact count, as new species are occasionally discovered and taxonomy can change, it is estimated that there are around 300 mammal species found in the Western Ghats.
These mammal species encompass a variety of orders, including primates, carnivores, ungulates, rodents, and bats, among others. Some of the mammals found in the Western Ghats include the lion-tailed macaque, Indian elephant, Bengal tiger, Indian leopard, Malabar giant squirrel, Indian gaur, stripe-necked mongoose, Indian flying fox, and many more.

It's important to note that the Western Ghats are recognized as a global biodiversity hotspot, indicating its exceptional richness and high levels of endemism. Ongoing research and conservation efforts in the region continue to shed light on its mammalian diversity, making it a significant area for scientific study and conservation.
